About the role
We're hiring a low-voltage technician who takes pride in clean installs. You'll design, install, and service IP video surveillance, access control, and structured cabling for homes, offices, and small commercial sites across Indian Land, Waxhaw, Monroe, and Matthews.
This is a hands-on field role: walking sites with clients, running and terminating cable, mounting and aiming cameras, wiring door hardware and controllers, configuring NVRs and cloud platforms, and coming back to service and upgrade what we've installed.
What you'll do
- Install, configure, and service IP camera systems, NVR/VMS platforms, and cloud video (Axis, Avigilon, Verkada, Hanwha, UniFi Protect, and similar)
- Install and program access control — controllers, readers, electric strikes, maglocks, REX devices, and door hardware (Verkada, Brivo, UniFi Access, Kantech, and similar)
- Pull, terminate, label, and certify Cat5e/Cat6 copper and basic fiber; build out racks, patch panels, and network closets
- Configure PoE switches, IP addressing, and VLANs so security devices are reliable and segmented
- Perform site surveys and help prepare device layouts, cable paths, and material lists
- Troubleshoot and repair existing systems, including legacy analog/coax and intrusion panels
- Follow NEC, TIA/EIA, and BICSI practices, local code, and jobsite safety (ladders, lifts, attics, crawl spaces)
- Document as-builts, credentials, and device locations; train clients on their new systems
Required qualifications
- 2+ years installing or servicing low-voltage systems — cameras, access control, intrusion, and/or structured cabling
- Working knowledge of IP networking (IP addressing, PoE, switches) as it applies to security devices
- Comfortable with hand and power tools, cable testers, ladders up to 28', and working in attics and ceilings
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods
- Awareness of North Carolina and South Carolina low-voltage and alarm licensing requirements, and the ability to register or obtain required credentials (for example, NC Alarm Systems Licensing Board registration) after hire
- Valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass a background check — you'll be in clients' homes and businesses
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Friendly, clear communicator who can explain technical issues in plain English
Nice to have
- BICSI Installer 1/2 or Technician
- NICET certification in Video Security Systems or Fire Alarm Systems
- Manufacturer certifications: Axis (ACSE/ANCE), Avigilon, Verkada, Hanwha, Ubiquiti, Genetec, or Milestone
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Experience with fiber termination and splicing
- NC or SC low-voltage / limited electrical license experience (NC SP-LV or similar), or experience working under one
